About
Fill the medieval world with the real men and women who shaped it.
Historical Characters Expanded pours hundreds of real historical figures into Crusader Kings III — scholars, poets, physicians, mystics, artists, explorers and statesmen from across the medieval world. They appear in their own time and place, ready to be recruited, courted, educated, or simply encountered, bringing your court and your world to life with the genuine talent of the age.
✨ What it adds
- 👥 Hundreds of new historical characters layered on top of the base game's roster — real people drawn from history across Europe, the Islamic world, India, China, Africa and the steppe.
- 🎨 Custom illustrations for notable figures and for every field and culture, so these characters look the part when you meet them.
- 🏷️ A dedicated "Historical Character" trait that marks these figures so you can recognise the genuine article at a glance.
- 🌍 Global & inclusive — men and women, many peoples and religions, far beyond the usual Western European cast.
- 🧩 Seamless integration — it plugs directly into the game's own historical-character system, spawning figures at the right time and place with no new menus to learn.
🎓 Fields of Achievement
The mod's figures span every kind of medieval greatness — the mind, the arts, the faith, the coin, and the sword. A few of the fields represented:

🖼️ A Few Notable Figures
Among the many real people the mod brings into the game — each with their own illustration:

…and this is only a taste — the roster also includes household names such as Dante, Giotto, Héloïse, Eisai, al-Biruni and many more.
🌍 A World of Talent
The figures are drawn from peoples and faiths across the whole medieval world — not just the West:
| Region | Peoples & faiths represented (examples) |
|---|---|
| Western Europe | Frankish, Breton, Welsh, Cornish, Frisian, Pictish · Catholic |
| Mediterranean & Byzantium | Greek, Armenian · Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic |
| The Islamic World | Arabic, Bedouin, Andalusian, Egyptian, Berber · Ash'ari, Maturidi, Ibadi |
| The Jewish Diaspora | Sephardi & other communities · Rabbinism |
| India | Dravidian & Indo-Aryan peoples · Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Jain, Buddhist |
| Southeast & East Asia | Burmese, Chinese · Theravada Buddhism & more |
| Northern & Eastern Europe | Russian, Finnish, Estonian, Sami, Lithuanian, Prussian · Orthodox & Baltic/Finnic paganism |

⚙️ How it works
- 🕰️ Right time, right place. Figures appear in the era and region where they truly belonged, aging and passing as history moves on.
- 🤝 Part of the living world. Recruit them to your court, marry them in, take them as guardians or physicians, or cross paths through play.
- 🔍 Easy to spot. The "Historical Character" trait flags the real figures among the generated crowd.
- 🧱 No fuss. It extends the base game's own system — install and play, no setup required.
